Waning Dark

are all things interconnected? do the
elements at hand in our world
delineate death or rebirth or
both? like when
time slips into a deep wither.
long shadows slash out through
a slanting sun and bleed in
sunset streaks. or how
bruised branches hang limp in
battered animation.
gossamer web threads glisten
in an eerie dew haze.
the crepuscular ocean wanes and
moon tugs at its edges.
a lone beach beneath cold
air and poor and aging
nature aches. how such bleak scenes
seem to capture that
insubstantial space standing in
our lives. but time?
to see and hear and heal and love?
in this shrinking era?
it is all so ephemeral and we
do not welcome that drab death
or our inevitable
demise. but wait—
are not all things interconnected?
the sun will rise and the
trees in spring will bristle with leaves
once again. spiders will not
seek all dew and dark and
the ocean will churn out
warm whitecaps under a
bright celestial embrace.
we in this natural world
do not die but come alive again.
like sighting a lost loved one in he
who broke past his cocoon
to sprout wings and greet hello
on the morning air.
let us divide our pains and pleasures
upon the earth.
take in light where we
see dark. set upon our paths
as people who spread vigor
along velvet meadows and across
vast skies and vicious nights—
that restart our arresting hearts.

Writer's Statement: I hope to both explore and explain the human condition as I understand it. I hope to connect with the world through words --- words can inspire and evoke and immortalize. I hope above all else to create writing which resonates with readers their entire lives!

Awards & Distinctions: Yale University Book Award, AP Scholar, National Honor Society, Kitty Hawk Honor Society, 2024 Maine Literary Award for Anthology (as a Telling Room Publishing Workshop Program judge and editor), 2024 Ellipsis International Advanced Writing Workshop Program participant, Gigantic Sequins literary magazine Honorable Mention, publication in "Connecting Nature" poetry anthology, Black Belt, 5x Martial Arts State Champion, 2x Martial Arts New England Champion, Junior ROTC Military Order of the Purple Heart Award, Junior ROTC Most Improved Cadet, Junior ROTC Outstanding Flight

Etcetera:I actually have a twin brother --- but most people assume my sister three years younger is my twin! In my free time (that is, when I am not too busy putting my beloved book characters through trauma), I love to dance, play the saxophone, draw, journal, work as a JROTC officer, and study random topics that fascinate me --- like moral philosophy and the dead Latin language. I am striving to self-publish a novel in 2025 that revolves around martial arts . . . is it a coincidence I find all my best ideas for this novel while fighting in the ring? Also: I have watched all 9 seasons of the Office at least 5 times. I will always re-watch a show over starting a new one.
